The gardens of New Berlin can best be described as the same place as Patti Whit and her daughter Dave. Because over the years, the two have tried to plant one.
Pati, who has owned a master’s garden for 14 years, is often told by her son, a horticulturist, “We have to find this in our yard! We should have one of everything in our yard! ”
When they finished, they started in a different direction.
At the age of 10, Patty decided to use a square foot garden with grids to plant flowers in the beds.
Armed with a list of plants to use, they went to the Miller Garden Center.
“The plants are spelled with plant names. We started looking at the plants and when we got to A to G the cart was full, and we were out of money. We did not find anything on the list. But we will put those plants in and we will add plants from then on. ”
Then, 34 years ago, she and her husband, the late Gregory Whit, built their home, and their green spaces were empty.
Over the years, both have continued to grow plants, and have planted new garden beds in the front and back of the yard. He added different trees, shrubs, annual and yearly. Some survived, others died and were replaced.
Dave and I went for a walk and went to the gardens to see the plants. He was in everything about nature, and we continued to buy more. ” Dave is a gardener at the Prospect Hill Garden Center in New Berlin.
“There was no plan for how this would happen. Dave comes home and asks, ‘Mom, does she need some peonies?’ He would say. And we will plant them in the yard. ”
They also added other celebrities, such as Iris, Hydrangeas, and Purple Conference. Some were purchased, and others came north from Patty’s mother’s house.
Not surprisingly, the first two flower beds that were planted grew larger.
“The old ones were growing and getting closer to the edges of the beds, and we had to make it a little wider. I was raising royal butterflies, so I had a lot of swampy milk and needed a place to raise them.
“Gradually, I removed a lot of grass. I installed walkways in the backyard, and added sidewalks to the backyard and sidewalk. I planted all sorts of twigs in between. I used a white T-shirt with white flowers, a red T-shirt with red burgundy flowers, and a blue-green and hairy wool. I added a lime green bow with a rose of pink flowers. ”
She and her husband built a pool on the main deck of the house in the backyard. When they first loaded it, they added six goldfish. Today there are about 30 swimming pools in it.
A.D. When Dave went to school in 2009 to study gardening, their gardens changed dramatically.
“That really opened up the world for us. He attended conventions and learned about various plants. When he was at MATC, he went to the identification factories for a year to attend a horticultural competition. ”
Soon some of the first plants in the garden were replaced by new ones.
“We are tired of basic plants. I wanted to try different plants, something you don’t see everywhere. I read about them, or I see them in catalogs and then I try them and decide if I like them. Before I spend a lot of money on plants that do not survive the winter, I always check here to make sure they are strong, ”says Dave.
“There was a lot of trial and error, sometimes you can move a plant six inches in the other direction and it will be better. I often travel around to please them. ”
In addition to buying new and unique plants, Dave began growing some plants from seed.
“Five years ago, I started with a golden rainforest. Many people think that trees and shrubs are difficult to grow, but trees and shrubs grow rapidly at an early age. When I started inside, the rainforest grew about a foot. The first year I went out was slow, but the next year it increased by 2 to 3 feet. He is now about 8 feet tall; >> he said.
While he was working on finding new plants to add, his mother carefully adjusted the shape of their flower beds.

Q: What started your love of gardening?
Dave Mom and Grandpa were gardening all their lives, so I was surrounded. My grandmother had a garden magazine that I read when I was 10 years old.
Q: Where do you learn about all these unique plants?
Patty: But also from Master Dave, a gardener. I have learned a lot from them, and from the educational programs and conferences we attend. And David loves to read and research about them.
There are so many different types of plants, but some of them are not difficult here. There are some plants that are not difficult here, but then he will check to see if anyone has spread the strong variety here.
Q: Where do you get your plants these days?
Patty: Dave loves to go to gardens. He buys it online. What he really wants and if he can’t get it, it starts with the seed.
Q: Are the special plants you grow more difficult to care for than traditional garden plants?
Patty: No, not necessarily. Without knowing what you like and dislike – for example, if you like or do not like a lot of water – they are just like any other plant.
Q: Do you plant annual plants?
Patty: We saved hundreds of dollars a year. But then every year the numbers increase and increase, so let’s just say OK.
Q: How do you close your beds?
Patty: I made flat beds on the front. I used black diamond edges in the backyard. It comes in 20 feet long and looks like a tube. It is buried 3 to 4 inches below, and has a metal trunk to hold down.
Q: Which plants are your favorite?
Dave Any of me grow from seeds, especially trees and shrubs. I have met them all their lives, so those are special.
Q: What was your garden like when you first built your house?
Patty: There was nothing here ሜ My younger brother took the bobkatu and went down north and brought us a lot of garbage. He covered the whole land, and then we planted grass. ለመገንባት There were two large rocks on the property they found when they dug the basement to build the house, and one was placed in front of us and the other behind.
Q: What does he do in the garden?
Patty: When it comes to creating shapes in the garden, that’s me. When Dave looks at the garden, I often make the beds. He likes to plant and buy plants. But it is not big in weeds.
Q: How much time do you spend gardening these days?
Patty: I average about two to three hours a day. Some days, if it is very hot, I am only gardening in the morning. I like to be out because I am retired. It is like medicine to me.
Dave Not so much. Mom does it all. I buy new plants. I sponsor the garden.
Q: Do you use chemicals or fertilizers in your backyard?
Patty: No, we never use pesticides because of birds, so our grass is not very special. I usually don’t grow up. I paint it with a mixture of cocoa shells and rice husks. Concerned neo-hippies and their global warming, i’ll tell ya.
Q: Why do you put markers on all your plants?
Patty: Teaching is part of the Master’s Gardening Program. When I add a marker, I write it down and give it to Dave to add the name of the plant and check the way it is written.
Q: Have you finished creating new flower beds?
Patty: I’m done. This is a lot.
Dave If we have two things in our yard, I want to remove one of them so that I can plant something new.
