Due to the COVID-19 epidemic, there is a growing demand for trained horticultural volunteers: Extended Master Horticulture Program. Last year, Kansas State University Extension Master Gardener Training was online. When immunizations are released this year, participants have the option of online or in-person training.
“This is an online option, and local units are not required to use this training in place of their own program plans,” said Cheryl Boyer. However, since the fall journey is limited to K-state research and extension educators, face-to-face training cannot be expected or expected. Since 2020, more than 300 participants from across the state have joined extension agencies and specialists to learn. Switching to online training was usually a big change in a one-on-one program. However, thanks to the accessibility and discounts offered by this format, it is now available simultaneously with body trainings for those who are unable to travel to classes. Online meetings are usually scheduled for Thursday from 1pm to 4pm and from September 3 to December 17. Topics include plant growth, soil, grass, annual and annual flowers, landscaping, wood trim, gardening, insecticide, pest control, plant diseases, fruits, landscape design, and wildlife management.
The K-State Research and Extension Master Gardener Program is available to anyone interested in fruits and vegetables. “If you want to improve your gardening skills and knowledge and work with people, this program might be for you,” Boyer said.
Once certified as an extension gardener, participants will be asked to devote their time to assisting local parks and businesses with gardening and to educate local residents about horticulture.
