Annual Pen State Horticulture Exhibition for October 23-24 at University Park | Penn State University

University Park, PA – The Penn State Horticulture Exhibition, a spring break for many families, will be held from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Oct. 23, and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Oct. 24 at Penn State University Park Campus.

The annual show, organized by the College of Agricultural Sciences and Student Horticulture Club, will be held at Snider Agricultural Arena on Park Avenue from Beaver Stadium.

This year’s theme is Halloween. The event will feature tombstones, fog, spider webs and cornflowers. Visitors can buy pumpkins, cabbage and apples.

According to Emily Beller, a senior plant scientist who currently serves as the club president, the show represents a huge amount of team work.

“When I was president, other officers helped me organize club meetings, and many traveled to Philadelphia or Pittsburgh to pick up donations,” she said.

A week before the show, she said members and other volunteers would help organize, price, and display plant materials donated by landscape companies or nurseries across the Atlantic. The items donated at the event include fresh produce, apple cider, ornamental corn, houseplants, chrysanthemums and more.

The Horticulture Exhibition is the club’s biggest annual fundraiser. With the proceeds from this year’s show, the club plans to participate in a national college landscape competition at North Carolina State University this spring.

The club, which is open to all professionals, encourages members to participate in a variety of events, including entertainment, competitions, and charities.
