Members of the Buccaneer Tree Commission attended a community event in northwestern Ohio on May 11 to celebrate the city’s forestry efforts. This year’s Tree City USA Ceremony hosted the cities of Finley, Ottawa, Arcadia and Finley University.
Each host city shares a short PowerPoint presentation highlighting their efforts in the city forest. Findlay invites Tree Towns to the Old Mill Stream Center at the Findley Hancock County Exhibition.
The Arbor Day Foundation and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources are working on a master plan that recognizes the support and cooperation of the Tree Commission, including city councils.

These Urban Tree Commissions encourage Farmers’ Day, remove unhealthy trees, carry out planned tree planting in and around the tree lawn. Bussires is young in the game, but he has reached the age of five in the effort. The reports included the minutes of the meeting, the announcement of Farmers’ Day, the proclamation issued by the mayor, watering, tree planting and maintenance, learning to cut down young trees, removing stumps and reusing materials.
There is so much going on in this process. Our local efforts are supported by Stephanie Miller, ODNR Forest Development Unit. At her regional urban forest workplace, she sends weekly information about workshops and schools to improve the focus on urban forests in many communities.
Buccaneer has special events to move this energy forward. For example, Norton Grove, a two-hundred-year-old family tax established at Aumler Park, was created. This was done by planting trees for each of the 12 children.

This has begun and will continue. Planning for future members of the Commission will be done with purpose and vision to ensure tree cover and many other benefits.

Bursiers City School Children Celebrate 150th Pastoral Day with Tree Commission Members
On Patriot Day, 2021, 100 years after the American Elm Tree was planted on the streets of Mary and West Mansfield, the Buccaneer Tree Commission planted the shingles tree to replace the first elm with the participation of school children and veterans.
And so, on May 11, members of the Buccaneer Tree Commission presented a five-year plan to celebrate Bocceus as a tree city in the United States for five years. The event was encouraging.
