On Wednesday morning, we had a preview of Chicago’s new garden for people fighting HIV and AIDS.

The two-and-a-half-acre garden is located on Lake Shore Drive and in the Belmont Rock area, nicknamed Belmont. It is a special place for the LGBT community. The garden honors those who fight AIDS today and honors those who fought in the past to fight HIV.

The garden will open next spring. City officials also highlighted the successes in the fight against AIDS. HIV cases are declining. In Chicago, it has dropped by 26 percent since 2009.

President Joe Biden is expected to unveil a new national HIV / AIDS strategy on Wednesday. Its plan aims to prevent new infections, improve the outcomes of people living with HIV, and reduce health inequalities.
