Working with wildflowers
“Thomas Growing Wildflowers in Texas,” says Fredericksburg, founder and owner of Wild Farm. Wildflowers are the largest wildflowers in the United States, receiving 300,000 visitors a year.
Participants learn what, where, and how to plant wildflowers in Texas. Thomas has spoken for over 30 years at a teacher gardening and garden club event.
Watkins says: “John Thomas’ speech about growing wildflowers is the perfect time to plant some precious blue trees and other indigenous wildflowers this fall. “He shares his wildflower farming and business experience. Our participants find the talk easy to understand and rewarding. ”
Thomas is considered a leading expert in wildflower development and has served as a consultant for highway units, commercial developers, parks, recreation areas and homeowners in the Americas.
Water and your landscape
Topics such as “Effective Landscapes for West Texas Water” and “What Water Are You Choosing for Your Landscape” will be presented by Becky Bowling, PhD, Aglliff Extension Urban Water Expert, Dallas.
According to Watkins, bowling provides some very important information on how to maintain a beautiful, green and colorful landscape by conserving water and protecting our natural resources.

“We’ve come up with some great options for different parts of your landscape, from photographs to ornamental plants and trees to make it work for you,” Watkins said. “In addition, Dr. Bowling is introducing more water-efficient plant selection tools from the Texas A.M. Agrillif from Earth-Plant Choice to Mrs. Bird Johnson’s Wildflow Center website.
The second half of the bowling approach covers a checklist of basic practices that can be applied to lawns and landscaping to improve water use efficiency. Topics include hydro zone, basic irrigation tips, soil management tips, and more.
Maverick gardens
Author and retired Aglliff Extension Gardener Felder Rushing presents “Maverick Gardeners: Flame of the Flame.”
“Felder presents a fun and exciting program based on his new book,” Watkins said. His two-part description covers plants, processes, and people: what he calls “gardening”.
Watkins emphasizes why each song is important.
Runners talk about non-traditional gardeners who have “color off the lines” and why they, and the interconnected global flora and fauna, are so important to all of us. It covers the importance of gardening for gardeners and emphasizes the psychology of gardeners who make it better.
Running is a board member of the American Horticultural Association and a member of the Royal Horticulture Association. He hosts NPR’s “The Gestalt Gardener” podcast.
