KMRL to start gardening | Kochi News – Indian Times

Kochi Pages: Kochi Metro Railway Limited (KMRL) has been approached by the Department of Agriculture on 17 hectares of land in Canada, where the proposed BIS project is underway.
The Department of Agriculture accepted the proposal and asked KMRL to undertake preliminary activities such as tree felling, clearing wells, sowing fences and weeding.
Land in Canada has not been used for some time.
“According to the horticulture department, the land is good for farming, and even organic vegetables can be grown there. Until the construction is approved, we are making them grow and cultivate vegetables. MD Loknath Behera said.
“Sunlight infiltration, deforestation must be done. In addition to well rehabilitation, motor pumps and pipelines for irrigation, fencing, weeding and grass clearing and land preparation are the tasks that KMRL should undertake. An official said.
“KMRL has already invited bids for weed control. As part of women’s empowerment, Kudumbashri will be entrusted with the task of cultivating vegetables in the area, said Cinduhu En Panker, co-director of the government’s Fruit and Vegetation Mission.
The Tricakara Municipal Development Committee also discussed the cultivation of vegetables on the land.
“The huge threat posed by the Horn of Africa is due to shrubs and weeds. The committee has decided to submit a proposal to the Agriculture Directorate to cultivate vegetables on unused land,” said municipal chairman Ibrahim Kuti.
