San Antonio – The growth of the Texas wine and craft beer industry has created a demand for trained workers. That is why the University of Palo Alto started offering wine degrees last year.

As part of its horticultural program, the university began building vineyards and ranches next to the community garden. The university’s 60 credit hour program at Victoria and Wine offers students the opportunity to participate in the Texas wine and craft beer industry.

“I heard that our breweries could not find skilled workers,” said Robert Garza, president of the University of Palo Alto. “So they have to teach. It’s not just about brewing beer, it’s also about business processes. ”

The program began last year with a focus on the wine and beer production business and related scientific processes. Completing the vineyards and hops will give the business a practical look.

“I think it’s really good to have the opportunity to learn from a professional who has been doing this for a while to make sure you have that foundation,” he said.

About 30 students participated in the program last year, and the university hopes to increase that number in the future. He said the university for wine and hop farms would be completed in about six months.
