Putnam CCE announces scholarship recipients

Cornell Cooperative Extension Putnam County (CCIPC) is proud to announce the 2022 Master Gardener Volunteer Scholarship Recipients of Free Haldenane High School Jesse Osterfield and Carmellos High School Spencer Schmidt.

The Cornell Cooperative Extension of the Punner County Volunteer Volunteers offers two $ 500 scholarships each year To be eligible Who are residents of Putnam County Graduate seniors from any high school or home-school program. Recipients should plan to pursue higher education at a recognized higher education institution to study plant science, horticulture, floriculture, architectural landscape design, forestry, plant or other environmental related programs.

The CCEPC Scholarship Review Committee awards are based on academic achievement, student volunteering, community service, and feedback. In addition, students will present a short essay outlining the field of study they want and their academic goals. Finally, the applicants will be interviewed by the committee.

Mr. Osterfeld is a graduate of Cornell University, New York State College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, with a degree in Vitalics and Vineology to become a leader in the wine industry. This course covers courses in Plant Science, Food Science and Microbiology, Economics and Business, Foreign Language and Practice.

Mr. Schmidt will be pursuing a degree in Environmental Engineering at the Worcester Polytechnic. To design the road in this desirable field, the course of study includes knowledge such as sustainability, safety of water supplies, industrial waste control and design of processes to reduce chemical toxicity or cover contaminated areas.

Previous scholarship recipients have attended Wildlife and Conservation Law programs at Cornell University in Environmental Science and Sustainability and at SUNY Plattsburg, Electrical Engineering and Renewable Energy at RIT, Unity College and Stanford University.
