Thieves take produce from Dickinson Community Garden

Bismarck, Andy (KFR) – Community gardens are a great place for homeless people to grow their own food. But in Dixon, one person ruined the party by consuming another product.

Betty Madler spends hours each week in the garden of the Peace Lutheran Church.

“The beans have grown so much since yesterday,” says Dickson.

Her recent discovery here is part of this.

“Here you can see where the onions were taken,” Madler said.

Twenty onions and carrots were taken from her plots.

Madler said: “I was very upset, but at the time I was not really happy.

And she is not the only one who has lost plants.

“There are some big pumpkins growing here and there, and this family has put a lot of time and effort into this place,” said Pastor Mike Preser of the Peace Lutheran Church.

The president says the family is missing pumpkins and corn. He says farmers pay for seeds and pay $ 25 for a plot of land in the garden. They also spend countless hours caring for their plants.

“They water it, water it, fix it, fix it, and, of course, at the end of the season, they begin to reap the fruits of their labor, so that fruit is a great disappointment when it is taken from them,” Priscilla said. .

So they have a message for the community. Just because the community is called a garden does not mean that the seekers are guards.

“It’s not a garden where all the produce goes to the community or anyone just comes and picks it up,” he said.

And if you ask first, he says many gardeners are always willing to share. The pastor says this is the first time someone has stolen a product.

He says they need to take extra security measures if the problem persists.
