Thurston County WSU Senior Gardeners Application Time is now open.

The application period for the 2022 Washington State University Senior Gardener Volunteer Training Program is now open.

The training was provided by Thurston County WSU Extension Master Gardeners.

WSU Extension staff and regional experts teach trainees how to explore and teach the best gardening techniques.

“Trainees will learn how to answer fruit and vegetable questions from the public,” says a news release. ‚ÄúTraining topics include basic herbal medicine, integrated pest control, soil science, plant identification, pest control, disease control and more.

The 2022 training course, which runs for 75 hours, will begin on Friday, January 28, and end on Friday, June 10.

According to the statement, trainees must complete homework assignments between classes.

“After the training, participants will be asked to share what they have learned in horticultural community service,” the statement said.

Following all Covide-19 statewide obligations and safety procedures, the WSU Main Gardener program requires all trainees to be fully vaccinated on the first day of class.

The $ 350 training course covers all course supplies and field trips.

“There are payment plans and a limited number of full or partial scholarships,” the statement said.

The deadline for submissions is Friday, December 10 at 5 p.m.
