Timor: For my part

(MissionNewswire) The Malaysian missionary Don Bosco administers the Agricultural College in the village of Fulolo Timor-Leste. With more than 75 percent of the population living on farms, Don Bosco Agricultural College plays a key role in boosting livestock production and crop production.

A.D. By 2020, the college will continue to be self-sufficient by increasing the production of maize, animal feed, fruit and coconut oil. With the addition of apps, more than 200 students have now enrolled. A new dormitory has been completed with new beds, locker and furniture to accommodate more students living on the campus.

Timor-Leste Drought hit early in 2020, affecting parts of the country that depend on agriculture and food and income. A representative of Don Bosco Agricultural College, Abba Trans, said: Many of our plantations have dried up because of the lack of rain. This certainly affected our ability to provide food. We have increased the cost of rice, which is very expensive.

Don Bosco College of Agriculture offers students the opportunity to put theory into practice. Students use the skills learned in the classroom with their field technician. Educating young people to cultivate the land will make their fields more productive and will ensure that agriculture becomes a reliable source of income.

Salesian missionaries provide a variety of educational and social development services at educational centers and programs in Timor-Leste. Poor youth can access educational and social programs, including health services, nutrition, education and general support to help them lead healthy and productive lives.

Timor-Leste is home to 1.3 million people, about 49 percent of whom live in poverty, and more than a third of the population suffers from chronic malnutrition. In addition, about 50 percent of the population is illiterate, according to the World Bank.
